FLINT TWP. — Numerous pots of poinsettias in a festive array of colors will decorate the stage when Carman- Ainsworth musicians are showcased in upcoming choir and orchestra concerts over the next few weeks.
What may not be well known is that the plants are provided through an annual public fundraiser.
Ordering for the Poinsettia & Holiday Greens Sale began on October 30 and will be taken through Friday, November 20. In a partnership with Wojo’s greenhouse it is one of the Cavalier Band Boosters most popular and successful fundraisers.
“We take delivery of the poinsettias on the day of the concerts and use them to line the stage to make it a bit festive,” said Dawn Vanderhyde, president of the Cavalier Band Boosters
Order forms are available online at www.cabandsorch.org/ uploads/2/3/1/4/23140986/2015_ poinsettia_ wreath_ christmas_ fundraiser.pdf
The concerts are presented on various nights by grade level and are open to the public, she said. Orders of the poinsettias and other holiday items including wreaths memorial blankets and greens can be picked up after the concert.
The Band Boosters hold several fundraisers throughout the school year to support the C-A band and orchestra program. Often proceeds are split with students so they can have an account to purchase supplies, shirts and other music-related items.
Upcoming fundraisers include:
Barnes & Noble Book Fair
On Friday Nov. 27, several C-A High School Students will be performing at Barnes & Noble while others will be gift wrapping. A percentage of all that days sales will be donated to the Band Boosters based on the amount of books sold that day. A book-fair voucher must be presented in order for credit to be granted to the Boosters. The voucher will be posted on the CA bands website.
The Band Boosters also are sponsoring and online bookfair with Barnes & Noble beginning Friday, Nov. 27 through Wednesday, Dec. 2, Vanderhyde said. A portion of all online sales will be donated to the Boosters only if the C-A bookfair ID number — 11753910 — is entered into the online order screen.
