Shooting prompts lockdown at Genesee Valley Center

FLINT TWP. — Police are searching for a suspect who fired shots at another customer at the Genesee Valley Center mall last Wednesday.

At around 7 p.m., May 19, Flint Township police officers responded to a report of shots fired inside the Genesee Valley Center on S. Linden Road. Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect had taken out his pistol and fired one round at another man near the JC Penney store in the mall.

Stores inside the mall went into lockdown as a result of the shooting and officers from multiple surrounding police departments arrived on the scene to assist Flint Township Police. There were no injuries from the shooting and both men fled the scene before police arrived.

Investigators said that the shooter and the victim both knew each other and that the incident is not believed to be a random event.

The Flint Township Police Department was assisted on-scene by the Michigan State Police, Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Metro Police Authority of Genesee County, Mount Morris Township Police and Davison Township Police.
