GENESEE COUNTY – Ho-ho-ho and off you go to sign up for the YMCA of Greater Flint’ Annual Family Santa Run/Walk starting at noon at 411 East Third St. in the heart of downtown Flint on Dec. 5.
All you have to do to register is visit flintymca.org/santarun and almost as quick as you can say Saint Nick, you and your family will be all set to take part in the season’s happiest happening.
“Every year, it just keeps getting better and better,” said Janet Tweddle, Chief Operating Officer of the YMCA of Greater Flint. “And this year, we’ve added a short and sweet Reindeer Run for our youngest racers!”
The proceeds from the annual Santa Run/Walk go to benefit the YMCA’s Partner with Youth Campaign. Over the past two years, supporters of this happy holiday happening have helped raised nearly $100,000.
The Partner with Youth program provides scholarships for families and youth to attend YMCA Camp Copneconic, various YMCA programs, and memberships.
The YMCA’s core belief is that no one should be turned away because of an inability to pay. All the funds raised stay in our community and go directly toward supporting this belief.
“Everyone who participates has a great time, and because the money goes to help a great cause it really helps put you in the spirit of the season,” said Tweddle. “Seeing thousands of Santas jogging down the street makes for miles The Santa Run/Walk is a one-mile or 5k, untimed event and each participant will receive a five-piece Santa suit, including beard! Race participants also receive a commemorative medal at the completion of their race.
For the third straight year, the Al Serra Auto Plaza in Grand Blanc is the event’s presenting sponsor.
“We are thrilled with the enthusiasm of all our corporate sponsors,” said Tweddle. “They have really helped take this fundraiser to a higher level.”
So for a jingle bell swell time, put the little ones in the stroller, round up your family, friends and bring the dog…and plan to head downtown Flint on Dec. 5 for the YMCA of Greater Flint’s Santa Run/Walk! — G.G.
