GENESEE COUNTY — Republican Jim Slezak of Davison won the Aug. 7 primary election against Tom Wassa of Fairgrove, clearing the way for a match-up with Dan Kildee (DFlint) in November.

Both hope to take over retiring U.S. Rep. Dale Kildee’s congressional seat in the fall. Dale Kildee is Dan Kildee’s uncle and has served this area in Congress for more than 30 years.

Slezak beat out Wassa of Tuscola County’s Fairgrove Village. Final count showed Slezak winning 15,717-8,929. Dan Kildee, who ran unopposed as a Democrat, earned more than 31,600 votes. — Tara Moreno
