Smiley announces bid for re-election

BURTON– State Representive Charles Smiley (D-Burton), has announced his candidacy for the 50th House District.

The 50th district includes Burton, Grand Blanc, Grand Blanc Township and Mundy Township.

Smiley served as Burton City Councilman from 1987 to 1991. He served as mayor for 19 years thereafter.

Smiley has focused on “middle class workers, K-12 education, seniors, veterans, local government and job growth.”

According to a press release, Smiley has “remained willing to work across the aisle to ensure a brighter future for Michigan.”

Former Lt. Gov. John Cherry is hosting the campaign kickoff event for Smiley. It is set to take place May 7 from 5-8 p.m. at Kicker’s Sports Bar, 5577 S. Saginaw St. in Grand Blanc Township.
