LANSING — State Representative Charles Smiley (D-Burton) will host a Veteran’s Summit on June 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at VFW Post 822, 5065 S. Saginaw St. in Flint, in partnership with several veteran groups.
This event will provide information on services and benefits available to local veterans and give them an opportunity to receive answers to their questions. This event is one of many efforts by Smiley to address the resource and employment needs of Michigan’s veterans.
He recently introduced legislation to give tax incentives to small businesses that hire unemployed Michigan veterans.
In addition to Smiley, summit panelists include Jeanne Thick, Director of the Genesee County Department of Veterans Services; Bill Traylor, Director of the Marine Corps League’s Veterans Service Office; Dave Smith, Commander of VFW Post 822; and representatives from the Purple Heart of Michigan, the VFW of Michigan, the American Legion and other veteran service organizations. — G.G.
