— Looking to get in shape without driving too far from home? Snap Fitness, which opened its doors Sept. 1 in Swartz Creek, offers a fast, convenient and affordable workout to the community.
The 24-hour facility, located at 9136 Miller Rd., is owned by John and Kim Blakeslee of Waterford. The couple, who also own Snap Fitness facilities in Flint Township and Grand Blanc, held an official ribbon cutting Sept. 9 with the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce. The Blakeslees decided to open a Snap Fitness in Swartz Creek due to a lack in the market.
“There is nothing in Swartz Creek for a good workout option,” John said. “The market needed something like this.”
The facility has six employees who work between the Swartz Creek, Flint Township and Grand Blanc locations. With a wide variety of free weight machines for circuit training and cardio equipment, Snap Fitness prides itself on offering its members top-notch, name brand equipment.
“We don’t skimp on equipment,” John said. “We carry the Cybex brand.”
Waterford resident Scott Vogt, manager and head personal trainer, runs the day-to-day operations of the Swartz Creek facility, in addition to the other two owned by the Blakeslees. Along with Vogt, Snap Fitness has three, parttime personal trainers: Kristin Carley of Burton, Zak Snell of Grand Blanc and Jeffrey Kalo of Grand Blanc. Currently, the facility boasts 146 members, but welcomes new customers anytime.
Rates vary from $20-59.95 a month, with single person rates starting at $39.95 a month and family rates starting at $59.95 a month. New members receive a free, one-hour fitness consultation, along with an additional, free training session with a personal trainer. Other perks of joining Snap Fitness include a free instruction and workout plan, free online training center, free fitness challenges, free personal web page, free trial online nutrition and meal planning and access to more than 1,000 locations worldwide.
Due to the nature of the facility, Snap Fitness has a 24-hour surveillance system and doors automatically lock. Staff members are onsite 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Since the facility will not be staffed around the clock, members receive an access card that allows them access any time.
“There is an emergency button that goes straight to the security firm,” said Kim. “All EMS and police have the ability to get into the facility.”
As an opening special and for a limited time, the Blakeslees are waiving the enrollment fee for everyone that signs up. For more information or to join Snap Fitness, call 810-213-4633 or visit www.snapfitness.com.
