FLUSHING — Carman-Ainsworth faces a stiff challenge in the Div. 1 softball districts Saturday at Flushing High.

The Cavaliers will open the June 1 tournament against Kearsley at 10 a.m. If they get past the Hornets, 18-14, the Cavs would face either Metro League champion Swartz Creek, 24-7, or the host Raiders, 11-13-1, who swept Carman-Ainsworth, 14-2 and 21-10, in a Saginaw Valley League doubleheader April 25.

The Cavs are 7-18 at this writing, having swept the three Flint city schools and picking up another win over Mayville in the LakeVille Invitational last Saturday. They’ve also come close to beating Davison and Powers Catholic.

A potent lineup has been led by Jessica McClung, Meghan Borgerding, Jennie Klapko, Jessica Smith, Dannie Crowder, Elizabeth Roe, Korbin Brandon, Samantha Johnston and Brianna Haskins. Madison Cox and McClung handle much of the pitching duties.

The district champion will move on to a regional semifinal game June 8 at Saginaw Heritage against the winner of the Brandon district.
