Soncrant named new Davison librarian

DAVISON — The Genesee District Library (GDL) has named Roy Soncrant as the new Senior Branch Librarian at the Davison Area Library, 203 E, Fourth St.

Soncrant started his career with GDL at the Beecher-Vera B. Rison Library, and has also worked at the Genesee Valley Center, Baker Park and Clio Area libraries.

Prior to joining GDL he worked at Nortel Corporation, the University of Michigan Medical Center and Delta College.

Good customer service is important to Soncrant. “Public libraries are the support staff for the entire community,” he said. “There is always some way that we can help with virtually any activity.”

Soncrant says his special skill is reference research. He plans to deliver first class patron service in the current challenging environment.

According to Soncrant, the pandemic is the biggest challenge facing libraries today. “It impacts every aspect of library service and will cause lasting changes,” he said.

Soncrant holds a bachelor’s degree in history and anthropology with degree certification in Asian studies from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in European history from Ohio University, and a Master of Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. — G.G.
