During the 12-day SpartanNash Foundation hunger scan, store guests who visited any participating SpartanNash-owned retail store or fuel center in eight states had the opportunity to donate $1, $5 or $10 at any checkout lane, with 100 percent of dollars raised going to support community food pantries and food banks.
As a result, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan received a check for $4,400 on Monday, Oct. 30, during a presentation at the VG’s store in Fenton.
Together with its store guests and company associates, the SpartanNash Foundation’s retail scan campaign raised nearly $260,000 on behalf of more than 100 local food pantries in Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
“VG’s and SpartanNash have succeeded once again in their efforts to combat hunger,” said William E. Kerr, president of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. “The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is proud to be the recipient of funds from their most recent Scan Away Hunger campaign. Keeping food on the table for those less fortunate this holiday season will be a little easier because of VG’s commitment to their local communities.” – L.R.
