GRAND BLANC — City officials still don’t know if the splash pad will be installed at Physicians Park this summer.
Construction was supposed to begin this spring, after the threat of frost has passed, but COVID-19 travel restrictions put a damper on the whole plan.
“The problem is the installers are in Canada,” said Grand Blanc City Manager Wendy Jean-Buhrer.
Non-essential travel between Michigan and Canada was prohibited effective March 21. As of June 16, the travel ban was extended to July 21.
If all goes well and the restrictions are lifted, it still will take two to three weeks to install all of the equipment and get the splash pad up and running, Jean-Buhrer said.
If the equipment can be installed this year, and if the coronavirus pandemic does not force further restrictions on public gatherings, the City Council will decide whether to go ahead and open up the splash pad this summer or wait until next season. — L.R.
