Former Cavalier making the most of situation

NORMAN, OK. — Carman-Ainsworth grad Dionte Savage lined up last year as a redshirt sophomore offensive lineman for Arizona Western Community College, helping lead the Matadors to a record of 8-2 overall, 6-2 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Savage went on to sign to play for the University of Oklahoma on Feb. 3, 2013 according to www.espn. go. com/ collegesports/ football. Eagles, Hornets to play in fundraiser game

FLINT — On September 6 the Kearsley Hornets Football Bi-Annual Patriot Games Festivities will take place at Kearsley High School, 4302 Underhill Drive, against Lapeer East at 7 p.m. Started in 2009 to honor the individuals who protect our freedom, this contest is free of charge to police, fire, EMS, active members of the military and veterans who are in uniform or have proper identification. At halftime these individuals will also be invited down to the track for the Patriot presentation and dessert will provided in the KHS cafeteria afterwards courtesy of the Kearsley Football Boosters. Youth gridiron scrimmage action coming up

UM-Flint to play home games on Atherton gridiron

BURTON — The University of Michigan-Flint football club will play its 2013 home games at Atherton High School after competing the last three seasons at Atwood Stadium. Home games for UMFlint are at 4 p.m. starting Sept. 21 against Oakland University, admission is $5 and players wearing their youth football jersey get in for free. Family Promise 5K Sept. 7

GRAND BLANC — Family Promise of Genesee County is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on September 7 at Genesys Health Park’s walking trail. Entry fee is $25 including a T-shirt if registered by August 30. Children 10 and under are free, and strollers are welcome. Family Promise is an interfaith organization dedicated to keeping homeless families together during temporary periods of homelessness.
