Former Cav roaming Bears defensive backfield

GREELEY, Co. — After getting redshirted in 2012-13 during his initial year playing football at the University of Northern Colorado, 2012 Carman- Ainsworth grad Brandon Lenoir will be looking for his chance to take the field in 2013-14. Lenoir, a 5-foot-8, 170 lb. cornerback whose major is undeclared, had 57 tackles during his final tour-ofduty with the Cavs, including a season-high nine defensive stops against Powers. This year UNC starts competition at home on Aug. 31 against Langston after going 5-6 overall, 4-4 Big Sky Conference. — M.S.

Meetings for kids gridiron league begin next week

GENESEE COUNTY — The Mid Michigan Rural Football League is having a roster meeting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 3 to approve schedules followed by the start of the 2013 season leaguewide on Sept. 7. Great Pumpkin Run/Walk registration open now

DAVISON — The Great Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk will take place on Oct. 12 at Davison High School, 1250 N. Oak Rd. Registration on the day of the event commences at 7:30 a.m., the 5K Run begins at 9:15 a.m. followed by the 5K walk a minute later and the Kid’s Run is slated for 10:15 a.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Until Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. cost for this event is $17 without shirt, $20 with shirt or $25 with long sleeve shirt. Awards will be given by category, including overall male and female and first through third place in age grooups such as 60 and over, 55-59, 50-54, 45-49, 40-44, 35-39, 30- 34, 25-29, 20-24, 15-19 and 14 and under. Two big races left on summer schedule

FLINT — For those who enjoy running, you will get a chance to compete with some of the area’s top runners as several races will take place as the summer season winds down. The Run For Your Heart is on Sept. 7 in Saginaw with a half marathon, 10K, 5K and Tot Trot and on Sept.29, Rochester will host Brooksie Way, a half marathon, 10K and 5K. — B.P.

Family Promise of Genesee 5K Run/Walk Sept. 7

GRAND BLANC — Family Promise of Genesee County is sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 7 at Genesys Health Park’s walking trail. Entry fee is $25 including a T-shirt if registered by Aug. 30. Children 10 and under are free, and strollers are welcome. Family Promise is an interfaith organization dedicated to keeping homeless families together during temporary periods of homelessness.
