Junior league hockey scores
FLINT TWP.— The Flint Junior Generals on the North American Tier III Hockey League played their first home game of the 2013-14 season on Sunday at Iceland Arena and defeated the Metro Jets, 7-1. Just 14 seconds into the contest, Cam Jorgenson put Flint ahead, 1-0, on passes from Conor Durgan and Mark McGee, which the Jets responded to three seconds later by tying the game at 1-1 off the stick of Alex Holm unassisted. Justin Fisher then connected on the powerplay at 12:23 with help from Ryan Burr before Nicholas Gnagni scored a pair of second-period goals at 3:05 on the assists by Durgan and Lapeer’s Jacob Drinkard and at 11:01 with help from Flushing’s Justin Fisher and Conner McGovern on the man-advantage to make it a 4-1 game.
Fisher was the next to score for Flint on the powerplay at 17:38 of the second on the pass from Durgan, who followed that by knocking home a goal at 11:59 of the fourth with a manadvantage on the assist by McGee. Josh Koepplinger then rounded out the evening’s offense at 14:36 with help from Zack Koonce and goaltender Natahn Klebbe stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced to earn the decision. Flint, 3-0-1 overall, also won at the Jets last Saturday 6-2 and hosted the Michigan Mountain Cats yesterday before traveling to Pittsburgh this Saturday and Sunday. Other local players on the Junior Generals roster include Grand Blanc’s Mark Vansaw Jr. and Raurie Petrich. — M.S.

GRAND BLANC — In the second week of the Mid Michigan Rural Football League on Sept. 14 in freshman competition, Carman-Ainsworth won, 28-12, at Grand Blanc. In junior varsity competition, Carman-Ainsworth picked up a 26- 12 victory at Grand Blanc and Carman- Ainsworth II came out ahead, 20-14, at Lake Fenton III. FLINT — The Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League defeated the Minot Minotauros, 3-0, on Saturday after losing, 6-4, at Austin on Friday and 3-2 at the Minnesota Magicians on Sept. 19. Michigan also opened the season on Sept. 18 by beating Brookings, 3- 1, and next hosts the Port Huron Icehawks tomorrow before traveling to Port Huron on Saturday for the rematch. — M.S.
Butte football undefeated
OROVILLE, Ca. — Dominique Harris, a 6- foot-4, 270 lb. freshman offensive lineman, has helped the Butte College football team win its first three games of the 2013-14 season. This includes victories over Feather River College on Sept. 7, College of the Siskiyous on Sept. 14 and Shasta College on Sept. 21 by a combined score of 155-28. Last season the Roadrunners were Nor-Cal conference champions and won the State Center Bowl. This Saturday, Butte hosts San Joaquin Delta College before traveling to Modesto on Oct. 5 and on Oct. 12 the squad has a bye. — M.S.
