The new inductees
BURTON — On October 26, the Carman-Ainsworth Athletic Hall of Fame will induct Scott Faculak from the 1991 track and field and ski race teams, Jim Featherstone from the 1982-83 track and field squads and 1982 wrestling and football standout Scott Savoie. Mona Wirostek-Ward will also join the Carman- Ainsworth Hall of Fame for her work with the track and field, volleyball and speedball teams as will the 1969 and 1975 football teams and Louis Schlosser for his 1964 Special Services Award. Roller derby on the horizon
FLINT — The Flint City Derby Girls, an amateur flat track roller derby team that competes as an apprentice member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, will host the Renegade Rolitia from Marshall, Michigan, at the Perani Arena and Event Center, 3501 Lapeer Rd., in Genesee County on Oct. 19. Area squad shot down
JANESVILLE, Wisc. — The Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League lost last Saturday and Friday at the Janesville Jets, 5-2, and, 4-3, in a shootout. Now eight games in to the 2013-14 NAHL season, Michigan is 3-4-1, tying it for fifth in the sixteam North Division with Janesville. The Warriors welcomed the Port Huron Fighting Falcons yesterday and the Johnstown Tomahawks come to Genesee County tomorrow and Saturday. Details: www.nahl.com. — M.S.
Carr driving southern defense
DALLAS, Tex. — Carman-Ainsworth grad Brandon Carr made two tackles for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League in a 51-48 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Now five games in to the 2013-14 season, Carr has 14 tackles, one assist and one interception that he returned for a touchdown during a 36- 31 home loss to the division rival New York Giants in week one. Dallas, 2-3 overall, hosts the Washington Redskins for a NFC-East matchup on Sunday. — M.S.
UM-Flint hockey play again
TUSCALOOSA, AL. — The University of Michigan- Flint hockey team lost to the University of Alabama, 4- 3, last Friday at Benton H. Wicloxon Municipal Ice Complex. Local players on the UM-Flint roster include Burton’s Daniel Smith, Goodrich’s Jake Brejnak and Connor Geml, Columbiavlille’s John Curlett and Lapeer’s Nathan Robson and Brian Gibbons. Against Alabama, Robson had two goals, Grand Blanc’s Dan Cowan scored once and Fenton’s Will Dawson added two assists. Smith, Flushing’s Mark Look and Flint’s Timothy Donnelly had an assist each, as well. UMFlint, 0-1-0-1, hosts Grand Valley State University tomorrow at the Perani Arena and Event Center.— M.S.
