Mid Michigan Rural Football results

FLINT TWP. — In week five of Mid Michigan Rural Football League action on Oct. 5, freshmen scores included Carman-Ainsworth beating Flushing, 26-8, at home. In junior varsity competition, Fenton won, 13-6, at Carman-Ainsworth and Carman-Ainsworth II grabbed a 19-0 decison at home over Fenton III. Details: www.mmrfl.org. — M.S.

Learning to resolve problems

BURTON — The Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts Center, 5515 Davison Rd., will host its second Hero Club on Oct. 26, which is a free community event that teaches children how to stand up to bullies and defend themselves. Warriors, Tomahawks split

FLINT — The Michigan Warriors of the North American Hockey League lost to Johnstown, 4-3, in a shootout last Saturday after beating the Tomahawks, 3-2, at home last Friday. Michigan is currently fourth in the NAHL-North Division at 5- 4-2 and next takes the ice tomorrow and Saturday at home against Springfield. — M.S.

Hockey squad keeps winning

FRASER — With a roster that includes Lapeer’s Jacob Drinkard, the Flint Junior Generals of the North American Tier III Hockey League won, 6-0, on Sunday at the Michigan Mountain Cats on goals by Zach Koonce, Brett Leppek, Nicholas Gnagni, Chris Skordillis, Josh Koepplinger and Mark McGee on the power play.

Flint also got two assists from McGee and one each by Lepek, Justin Fisher, Conor Durgan, Reno de Hont, Koonce, Ryan Burr and two by McGee. In net for the Junior Generals, Nathan Klebbe stopped all 22 shots he faced to earn the decision.

Flint managed a 2-1 shootout win at the Toledo Cherokee last Friday. McGee scored the Junior Generals’ only goal in regulation at 2:23 of the third with a man advantage on the assists by Fisher and Koonce. Toledo then had a chance to cancel out that score at 18:10, only to see Brody Duncan fail to connect on the penalty shot. Flint went on to win the shootout 3-2 on scores by Koonce, Durgan an Gnagni as Klebbe set aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced in goal to grab the victory.

The Junior Generals are in first place in the NA3HL East division at 10-0-1 and are at the Lakeland Ice Arena to face the Metro Jets on Saturday at 7:50 p.m. — M.S.
