Jr. Gens take pair

FLINT — Mark McGee’s goal in the second period proved to be the difference in the Flint Jr. Generals 3-2 win over Cleveland last Friday.

The win gave the Generals a 2-0 sweep in their series with the Lumberjacks. The Jr. Generals won the opener 5-1 last Wednesday.

Nick Gnagni had a pair of goals for the Jr. Generals in Game 2. The goals by Gnagni leveled the score at 1-1 and later at 2-2 to set the stage for McGee’s game-winner.

Conor Durgan had a goal and two assists in the opener between the clubs. Josh Koepplinger and Justin Fisher also had multi-point games with two each.

Koepplinger had a goal and an assist and Fisher had a pair of helpers. McGee, Brett Leppek and Luke Dmytro added a goal apiece for the Jr. Generals.

The Jr. Generals open the Silver Cup championship with a game at home against the St. Louis Jr. Blues tonight at 5 p.m. Flint will then host Dallas Friday at 4:30 p.m. and travels to North Iowa for a game Sunday at 2 p.m. — K.W.

Warriors make NAHL playoffs

FLINT — The Michigan Warriors split a pair of games with Janesville in North American Hockey League action Friday and Sunday. The Warriors dropped the first game 4-1. Mitchell Wedding had the only Michigan goal.

The Warriors scored three times to win the second game 5-4. John Farkas scored the game-winning goal with just 1:01 remaining in the contest. Farkas had two goals and two assists on the night.

Cody Kuster, Colin Larkin and Sean Campbell had a goal apiece for Michigan. The Warriors, who have now officially qualified for the league playoffs, had three home games remaining against Port Huron to close out the regular season.

They played Wednesday after our deadline and will face Port Huron Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. — K.W.

Derby Girls returning to action

FLINT — The Flint City Derby Girls women’s flat track roller derby squad will return to action next on Saturday, April 26 when they play host to the Southern Belles at Perani Arena. Details: — K.W.

Benefit run coming up

FLINT — The 5K run, which is a benefit for Kyle Kotula, will take place Saturday, March 29 at Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc. Details: — K.W.
