New organization to offer adult recreation league

FLINT — Beginning in July, Genesee County residents will have the opportunity to participate in a new social sports club organized by StaynPlayFlint. The first league, flag football, is scheduled to begin July 6 with basketball starting on July 15. The mission of StaynPlayFlint is to create a network of residents actively involved in their community while staying fit. Other leagues will include soccer, kickball, dodgeball, volleyball, softball, broomball and bowling. Most leagues will be co-ed and take place within 10 miles of downtown Flint. SVSU camps coming

UNIVERSITY CENTER — Saginaw Valley State University will host several summer camps this August. The university will host a special overnight experience in June that does not interfere with the numerous travel leagues. It’s a great way to see if SVSU could be for you. Burton Eagles coed slow pitch softball League

BURTON — Second shifters, here is your chance to play softball. The Burton Eagles is forming a coed slow pitch softball league. Team fees will be $650 and will include balls, umpires, and a guaranteed 20 games with playoffs at the end of the season. Team trophies for the winner and runner-up in the regular season and the playoffs will be provided. Games will be played every Sunday at the Burton Eagles. The first games are scheduled for June 22. The regular season will run approximately 10 weeks depending on the weather. Each team will play doubleheaders on Sunday with one game to follow the other. Game times will depend on the amount of teams that have to be fit in. B&D Basketball Camp set

GOODRICH – The 2014 B&D Basketball Camp, sponsored by David’s Faith & Hope for Life Foundation, will be held June 23-25 from 5-8 p.m. in the Goodrich Middle School gym. The camp is for boys and girls who will be in grades 3-6 in September and is designed to improve fundamental basketball skills (shooting, ball-handling, passing, defense, footwork) with help from the Goodrich varsity boys’ staff. County Amateur golf tourney

BURTON — Registration is now open for the 2014 Genesee County Amateur Championship to be held June 21-22 at IMA Brookwood Golf Club. The 36-hole stroke play tournament is open to players of all ages.

New this year is the addition of a Junior Division for players 16-19. The other divisions are Open (any age), Senior (50-62), Super Senior (63+) and Women’s (any age).

Entry fee is $65 for Brookwood season pass holders and $85 for others. Entry fee for the Junior Division Is $35 and $55. Advanced registration is required by June 16. After June 16, there is an extra $10 late fee.

3-on-3 hoops tourney

FLINT — The second annual Stop the Silence 3-on-3 basketball tournament sponsored by area police agencies will return to downtown Flint on June 28. The free tournament for youths 7-18 will be held on the Downtown Development Authority parking lot on Saginaw Street between Kearsley and First streets.

A unique requirement for individuals to participate is to sign a pledge to share information about a crime with a parent or responsible adult such as a teacher or police officer.

Participation will be capped at the first 500 registrants. Players can register online by visiting www.stopthesilenceflint.weebly.com and downloading a form which can be filled out and submitted by e-mail. Paper forms are available at several locations around Flint, including the Boys and Girls Club. — D.N.

Mott slates hoop camps

FLINT — The Mott Community College Mott Bears are hosting basketball day camps for students aged 6-15 this summer. There will be three sessions of the Mott Bears No Excuses Basketball Day Camp for boys aged 6-15, and one session of Mott Bears Women’s Summer Basketball Day Camp for girls aged 7-15.

The Mott Bears No Excuses Basketball Day Camps are four-day programs. Session I is June 23- 26, Session 2 is July 28-31 and Session 3 is Aug. 4-7. All three sessions run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $70 per session, with a two-session discount of $125 or two children in the same family pay only $60 per child for one session.

The Mott Bears Women’s Summer Basketball Day Camp is a three-day program Aug. 11-13, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $55 per person or two children in the same family pay $45 each.
