Football, cheerleading registration

FLINT — Registration for CAYFCL for boys 8-12 and girls 6-12 in currently underway. The fee to register is $170. The fee must be paid for in cash. Due to the rising cost of with MMRFL, insurance, and the purchase of helmets, jerseys and cheer jackets will not be included this season. Skateboard team in Detroit

DETROIT – The Birdhouse On the Road Summer Tour 2014 will roll into Detroit’s Riley Skatepark on Saturday, Aug. 23. The Birdhouse skateboard team includes Tony Hawk, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Ben Raybourn, Clint Walker, David Loy, Kevin Staab, Willie Santos and Clive Dixon. They’ll visit eight Midwest cities in 14 days. – D.N.

World’s Largest Golf Outing

VIENNA, Va. — Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S. – will host the fourth annual “World’s Largest Golf Outing,” Monday, Aug. 11 with a goal of raising $1,000,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

While spots have filled quickly at many of BCG’s 120 participating golf courses, tee times remain at several locations conducting the simultaneous golf event. World’s Largest Golf Outing is open to all players regardless of ability, and a USGA handicap is not required.

With more than $250,000 raised for WWP and 6,650 registered players to date, BCG hopes to reach $1,000,000 from this year’s event, eclipsing a record-setting $735,000 and 10,000 golfers in 2013.

Fastpitch softball tryouts

GRAND BLANC — The Grand Blanc Gladiators, a 14U fastpitch softball team, will hold a tryout on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m.-noon at Grand Blanc East Middle School. Pitchers and catchers will stay a half-hour later both days. Details: Joe Kilgore at 810-955-8159. – D.N.

Mott slates hoop camps

FLINT — The Mott Bears Women’s Summer Basketball Day Camp is a three-day program Aug. 11-13, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost is $55 per person or two children in the same family pay $45 each.
