Warriors drop pair of games to Soo
FLINT — The Michigan Warriors lost both games to the Soo Eagles in North American Hockey League action Friday and Saturday at Perani Arena.
The Warriors dropped the opener 4-3. A goal by the Soo’s Dan Weaver at 8:44 of the third proved to be the game-winner.
The Eagles came back from a 3-2 deficit to win the game. The Warriors scored all three of their goals in the first period.
After the Soo scored to take the lead 1-0, AJ Marcinek tied the game on the power play on assists from Ryan Doughherty and Cody Lichtenvoort. A goal by Mitch Wedding from Cody Kuster just 1:17 later put the Warriors in front 2-1.
The Warriors upped the margin to 3-1 on a goal by Tyler Groat. Michigan’s three goals came in a 2:05 second span.
The Eagles scored at least one goal in every period to defeat the Warriors 4-1 on the second game. A goal by Alex Berardinelli from Conor Durgan and Wedding at 14:17 of the first pulled Michigan even at 1-1 heading to the second.
The Eagles took the lead on a goal by John O’Connor at 6:27 of the second. The Soo then added two more goals over the final 20 minutes to lock up the victory.
Michigan is now in fourth place in the North Division with a 6-9-0 record. The Warriors travel to Springfield for a pair of games Friday and Saturday. — K.W.

Youth basketball camp, league on tap
DAVISON — The catholic community of St. John & Blessed Sacrament will be holding a youth basketball camp on Jan. 10 and a seven-week youth hoops’ league beginning on Jan. 17. The camp is intended for kindergarteners through third graders and will take place at St. John Family Center at 505 N Dayton St. in Davison.
