Warriors split pair of games

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Michigan Warriors split a pair of games with Springfield in North American Hockey League action Friday and Saturday.

The Warriors dropped the opener 4-3 in overtime. Tyler Groat had a pair of goals for Michigan in the opener.

His first goal came from Colin Horton on the power play at 1:14 of the second to tie the score at 1-1. Groat then netted an unassisted tally at 13:58 of the third to bring the Warriors to within one at 3-2.

A goal by Horton from Alex Berardinelli at 18:53 of the third sent the game into the extra session. Mitchell Crowley’s tally just 2:27 into overtime gave Springfield the win.

Ryan Wischow made 40 saves in net for the Warriors. Michigan was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Wischow came back to make 37 stops in the second game to post a 3-0 shutout. One of Wischow’s saves came on a penalty shot by Brian Rigali in the third period.

Ryan Burr opened the scoring for the Warriors on the power play at 14:29 of the first. Cody Lichtenvoort’s goal from Groat just 39 seconds into the middle frame put the Warriors up 2-0 heading to the third.

A goal by Derek Frentz at 15:12 of the third closed out the scoring for the Warriors. Peter Bates drew the only helper on Frentz’s tally.

The Warriors return home to Perani Arena to host the Soo Friday at 7 p.m. Michigan is currently in fifth place in the North Division standings with 34 points.

Ex-Cav scores career-high for Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – Carman-Ainsworth graduate Aliah Stinnett scored a career-high 10 points for Delaware State University in the Lady Hornets’ 65-60 women’s basketball loss to South Carolina State last Saturday.

Stinnett, a freshman guard, made her fifth career start and played 30 minutes as Delaware State entered the game with just eight active players and lost one to injury before halftime.

Stinnett has played in 14 of the Hornets’ 15 games and is averaging 2.4 points and 1.2 rebounds in 12.7 minutes per game. She is shooting .394 on 13-of-33 field goal attempts and has 11 assists, four steals and 10 turnovers.

Delaware State is 3-12 and 1-2 in the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference. – D.N.

Wilson gets double figures in win

DETRIOT — Former Carman-Ainsworth player Anton Wilson was one of four players in diouble figures in Detroit Mercy’s 81-69 overtime victory over Northeastern Monday. Wilson finished with 11 points for the Titans. He finished with 12 points in Detroit Mercy’s 70-64 loss to Green Bay Saturday. — K.W.
