Cavs’ wrestlers travel to Flonationals

INDIANA, PA. — Even though the state meet was held last month in Oakland County, there are still all kinds of varsity wrestling events taking place across the country. For Carman-Ainsworth this meant sending several athletes to compete at Flonationals on April 2-4 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, including Demetric Hall at 113 lbs. and Milik Dawkins at 152.

For Hall, this event started with a win by fall in the round of 64 over Pennsylvania’s Tye Varndell and in the round of 32 Hall was pinned by Bryce West. Hall also had several consolation matches that included a 10-1 major decision against Kentucky’s Tyler Storck and a 4-0 loss to New Jersey’s Garrett Oshea. Dawkins, on the other hand, came out blasting for the Cavaliers with a 20-6 major decision over North Carolina’s Mitch Dean at 152, only to then fall to Adam Martz 4-1. Next up for Dawson was major decisions against Missouri’s Austin Keller 11-3 and Michigan’s Alexander Phillips 15-3 prior to getting edged out 3-1 by Louie Deprez. — M.S.
