Detroit Lions annual youth football camp
GRAND BLANC – The Detroit Lions Football Education Division will host its annual Fundamentals Camp at Grand Blanc High June 15-18. Camp runs 8:30 a.m.-noon and costs $169 per attendee. Camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-14 who will be put through non-contact, fundamental football instruction with emphasis on player health and safety. Appearance by a current or former Detroit Lions player is always a highlight of camp. Skills contests and scrimmages will also take place with a 10:1 athlete to coach ration. Love To Play Softball Camp
LINDEN – The Love To Play Softball Camp for players in grades 4-6 will be held from 9:30 a.m.-noon June 29, June 30 and July 1 at Linden Elementary School, 400 S. Bridge Street. Cost is $40 with a T-shirt. Campers will work on fundamental softball skills with experienced coaches, and high school and college athletes. Limited spaces are available. Summer softball camp at Mott
FLINT – Mott Community College women’s softball coach Rod Studaker will host his annual summer softball camp June 15-17 at Kearsley Park. Morning and afternoon sessions include mornings for grades 5-8, afternoon for grades 9-12 from 9 a.m.-noon for morning sessions and afternoons from 1-3 p.m. Cost: $90 for all three days pitchers and catchers, Skills camp $120 for all three days. FLINT — The annual Bruin Classic All-Star games for high school seniors are set to take place over the next couple of weeks. The volleyball match takes place Tuesday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at Bellenger Fieldhouse. The baseball and softball contests will be played Monday, June 22. The softball game will start the proceedings at 6 p.m. with the baseball game to follow at 8 p.m. Both games will be played at Whitley Park. The basketball game will be played Friday, June 26 at 6 and 8 p.m. at Bellanger Fieldhouse. — K.W.
Johnson, Allen making presence felt
FLINT — Former Carman-Ainsworth football standout Darryl Johnson has made a switch to a different position with the Austin Peay State football team. Johnson, who made nine appearances on the defensive line during his freshman year in 2014, moved to the offensive line during spring practice. Johnson’s former teammate with the Cavaliers, Demarion Allen, will be in the mix for a starting assignment in the Austin Peay State secondary this coming fall. Allen appeared in every game as a freshman last season. He was a significant contributor to the Governors’ special teams. Allen finished with four unassisted and six assisted tackles in 2014. — K.W.
Early registration for races
FLINT — Early pre-registration for the 10 and 5K races at Atwood Stadium on Saturday, July 18 ends on Saturday, July 4. After that day, entrants must pay a late fee to enter. The early registration fee is $25 with a shirt and $15 without a shirt. Late registration is $30 with a shirt and $20 without. Duo Medal-y early registration is $40 with a shirt and $30 with no shirt. Duo Medal-y late registration is $45 with a shirt and $35 without. Race day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Crim Training Vouchers will be accepted on the day of the race but availability of shirts will not be guaranteed. Vouchers are good for one race. Those doing the duo pay $15 for early registration and $20 for late registration. – K.W.
