Hall to induct three teams

GRAND BLANC – The Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame has announced the three teams to be inducted in this year’s class.

The 1962-65 St. John Vianney golf teams will be inducted as one entry for winning three state championships while compiling an 89-7 dual meet record in that four-year span.

The 1963 Flint Northern wrestling team won the state championship. The 1976 Flint Beecher boys’ basketball team went undefeated at 27-0 and beat River Rouge 80-76 for the state title.

Those teams, along with seven individuals, will be inducted on Dec. 6 at the Genesys Conference and Banquet Center. The individual selections will be announced at a press party on Oct. 7.

Schlee tournament July 25

GRAND BLANC – The 22nd annual Ryan Schlee Memorial Soccer Tournament will be held July 25.

The 3v3 tournament is part of a two-day celebration of soccer in memory of Ryan, who passed shortly after graduation. It begins with an alumni game Friday night, July 24, at Grand Blanc High School. The tournament will follow on Saturday at Rick Hartker Soccer Complex on Maple Road, with the first games at 8 a.m.

Cost for the tournament is $120 per team, which includes a minimum of three games and a t-shirt for all participants registered prior to July 10. Register online at www.grandblancsoccer.org or email ryanschleememorial@gmail.com. – D.N.

Softball tryouts

LAKE FENTON — Tryouts will be held for the Adrenaline girls’ fastpitch softball squad Aug. 7-9 at Lake Fenton High School, 4070 Lahring Road in Linden. The teams will range from 10U to 18U. Go to adrenalinefastpitch.com for times, pre-registration and coaches’ information. — K.W.

Bastille Day races

FENTON — Jesse Anderson of Fenton finished first in the Bastille Day 15K men’s race in 53:43. Kelsey Bragg of Fenton won the women’s race in 1:03.15. Michael McCarty of Davisburg took the top spot in the men’s 5K Run in 16:55. Suzanne Larson of Fenton won the women’s race in 18:55. Harry Garrison of Flusing took first in the men’s 5K Walk in 29:22. Karlee Carbary of Fenton took first in the women’s race in 35:59. The 14th annual event raised over $20,000.

Riverdawgs to hold tryouts

BAY CITY — The Saginaw Riverdawgs softball teams will hold tryouts at the Bay City Western High School softball fields Aug. 8-9. The schedule for tryouts on Aug. 8 is: 10U from 9-11 a.m., 12U from 1-3 p.m., 14U from 3-5 p.m., 16U from 11-1 p.m. and 18U from 9-11 a.m. The schedule for tryouts Aug. 9 is: 10U from 4-6 p.m., 12U from 2-4 p.m., 14U from 12-2 p.m., 16U from 10-12 p.m. and 18U from 4-6 p.m. — K.W.
