NHSACA welcomes local skippers

GRAND RAPIDS — Area coaches are invited to attend the National High School Athletic Coaches Association annual meeting June 18-22 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids. Offerings include a “Leadership Class” on June 18-19 for $350, “Sport Specific Coaching” is available June 20-22 for $450 or both classes can be had including the convention registration for $700. Spartans spring game Saturday

EAST LANSING — Michigan State University will hosts its annual spring football game Saturday, April 30 at Spartan Stadium. The game, free to the public, features a youth clinic prior to the game with opportunities for the kids to get autographs from players and coach Mark Dantanio. Kick-off is at 1:30 p.m. The Spartans will open the season on Sept. 3 vs. Youngstown State at home. Local players at MSU this season include Goodrich sophomore and walk-on last season, Kyler Elsworth and North Brnch’s Zac Hueter, a junior who has not seen action yet because of shoulder surgery and injuries. British soccer on the offerings

GENESEE COUNTY — The Dept. of Parks and Recreation has several soccer camps coming up, including Challenger British Soccer from July 18-21 for kids 3-18 years old at Creasey Bicentennial Park.

According to gbparks.com, “British Soccer Camps provide players of all ages and abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament. Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship and leadership. Camp programs include a free ball and shirt and a free British Soccer jersey for on-line registrations 45 days prior to camp.”

Free clinic coming up

GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee Fieldhouse, 7383 Grand Parkway, is hosting a free soccer clinic on Saturday for boys and girls 8-14 years old from 10:15- 11:30 a.m. featuring English Premier League coach Dave Fitzgerald of the Bolton Wanderers. The clinic is open to the first 60 athletes that sign up in advance and all players will receive a free t-shir t along with coaching that is specific to the Bolton Wanderers Academy Curriculum. Seed distribution on the offerings

BURTON — Pheasants Forever of Genesee County is once again offering its seed distribution for habitat planning program for members at ForMar Nature Center, 2142 N. Genesee Rd., from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 30. Cost for membership is $35 per year. On Saturday, May 21, Pheasants Forever seed distribution for habitat planning for the general public takes place at ForMar Nature Center, 2142 N. Genesee Rd. from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.
