Phantoms fall in championship game

DETROIT — The Greater Flint Hockey Association ’98 Flint Phantoms Bantam A ice hockey team posed after the championship game in the End of School Classic tournament in Detroit recently. The team fought past a field including Kensington Valley Rebels, Trenton Trojans, Sylvania Ohio Leafs, BelleTire Dearborn to make it through the semifinals, and championship game. Flint lost to the Orchard Lake Pirates, 1-0.

Camp for Champs date set

ALMONT — The Second Annual Football Camp for Champs, a camp for special needs students, will hit the gridiron June 9-10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. with a game taking place at noon on Saturday, June 11 at the Almont varsity football field. Cost is $18 and includes a Tshirt to be worn on game day. Additional Tshirts will be available for sale for friends and family members for $10. Registration deadline is Monday, June 6. Detroit Lions’ youth football camp on tap

GRAND BLANC — The Detroit Lions annual youth football camp is slated to take place at Grand Blanc High School June 20-23. Camp is open to boys and girls and runs 8:30 a.m.- noon. Each year a Detroit Lions’ player attends camp going through the drills and skills with the kids that they learned in their sessions. Autograph sessions follow for the kids and the Lions’ player speaks to the kids about good grades, leadership, teamwork and football fundamentals. Details: 313-262- 2248. — L.P.

Parks and recreation offering skills clinic

GRAND BLANC — From July 18-22 the Challenger British Soccer camp is being hosted by the Grand Blanc Department of Parks and Recreation at Creasey Bicentennial Park for boys and girls ages 3-18. According to, “British Soccer Camps provide players of all ages and abilities with the rare opportunity to receive high-level soccer coaching from a team of international experts. Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament.”

AREAWIDE — Photos of area high school athletes in action are available for purchase on the View Newspapers web site, and not just those that appear in the paper. Due to space limitations, many photos never get published in print, but they are still available in our Photo Galleries.

Go to and click on the newspaper in your community, then the Photo Gallery in the menu on the left. The first page will list several photo albums, but more can be found by clicking on “All Albums” in the upper left area of the page.

Photos can be purchased in various forms, from matte prints to products such as T-shirts, coffee mugs, magnets, mouse pads, buttons and seven different sports balls. A digital download is also available.

The selection is large, with some albums containing more than a dozen photos. — D.N.
