FLINT — McLaren Medical Group is now offering sports physicals for student-athletes for the fall season. Sports physicals help determine whether it’s safe for a child or teen to participate in athletic programs by identifying any underlying health conditions. Physicals can also help minimize the risk of sports-related injuries.

FLINT TWP. — The following official practice dates have been set by the Michigan High School Athletic Association. On August 8, high school football begins practicing with all other sports beginning on August 10. — L.P. Warrior Dash coming to Genesee County

MT. MORRIS TWP. — The nation’s premiere extreme running event that includes fire leping, mud crawling, a 5K race and festival is coming to Genesee County Parks and Recreation.

To date, nearly 26,000 runners are expected to compete on Saturday, July 30, at the Parks and Recreation Commission’s E.A. Cummings Center. Runners will take on 12 intense obstacles over 3.3 miles of extreme terrain followed by an all-day festival with live music, food and beer.

Warrior Dash features participants jumping through fire, crawling through mud pits, climbing over vehicles and working their way through nine additional grueling obstacles. The first wave of the race starts at 9 a.m., followed by waves of 500 racers taking off to battle the course every half hour until the last group at 4:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to wear their best Warrior attire and are crowned with fuzzy Warrior helmets prior to racing. Turkey legs and other Warrior grub are available for purchase. Spectators enjoy the live music playing throughout the day, watch the Warriors tackle the obstacles near the finish line, and take part in the other activities on site.

FLINT TWP. — According to the Michigan High School Athletic Association rule, all physicals on file now in the athletic office for the high school and middle school sports are not valid for the 2011- 2012 school year. If kids plans to participate in athletics at Carman-Ainsworth next school year, their physical must be dated as of or after April 15, 2011. Any physical turned in to our office for next year’s sports that is dated before April 15, 2011 will not be accepted.

Physicals for the 2011-2012 school year will be given at the high school by Dr. Lum and Dr. Young on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 1-4 p.m. and on Thursday, August 4 from 5-7 p.m. Cost is $15, cash only. No athlete is allowed to practice or try out unless they have a physical on file in the Athletic Office or can present one to the coach on the first day of practice. — L.P. FLINT TWP. — The Bendle/Carman- Ainsworth Community Ed summer swim sessions have begun. Session III begins July 25 and runs through August 4 with a cost of $44-$49 depending on skill level. Session IV runs Aug. 8-19. Classes are held Monday through Thursday at the high school.
