Hello and welcome to your first edition of the Flint Township VIEW. We are excited to present Flint Township with its very own sports section, highlighting the entire varsity sports scene.
Within the pages each week, we believe that you will be pleasantly surprised at the extent of the coverage, the variety of sports covered, and the full-color photographs.
The Flint Township VIEW will cover all of the Flint Township varsity high school sports, AYSO soccer, little league, youth wrestling, adult recreation, and other community based sporting events. We strive to provide equal coverage to each sport, leaving a little room to acknowledge any JV or freshmen squads, which may do well at the end of their seasons.
Each week you can expect to find comprehensive game recaps from the football, soccer, golf, tennis, swim, basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and track competitions, including full-color photos, coaches and player comments, and the game details.
Our Sports Shorts section is where you can announce your specific fundraising events, local recreational opportunities, and other upcoming sports-related happenings. These are shorter items that will recognize youth and adult athletes, promote sport events, and allow us to post coaching vacancies at the high schools, or just let the readers know about upcoming events such as golf outings, bike and road races, mini-camps, etc.
If you like sports columns, we’re happy to provide two each week. The Sports View column is our opinion on the local, regional or national scene, while Fat Guy’s Corner is a very flavorful look at the college and local sports scene, complete with NFL football picks and Fat Guy’s sometimes tongue-in-cheek views on the mundane to the absurd.
The possibilities of what we cover week to week are endless and limited only by our page counts. We are open to whatever crosses my desk from you, the reader. We consider all story ideas and tips and also consider all photos submitted by our readers. We prefer jpeg images (unedited), but can work with prints and negatives.
Photos need to be standalone attachments, not embedded in Word documents.
Throughout the year you’ll also see season-specific calendars including an extensive Tee Time Calendar of golf outings and all things hunting.
We also reach beyond the high school scene with an Outdoors page each week covering local, statewide and national hunting, fishing and outdoor issues and topics. We traipse through each of the hunting seasons, and look forward to printing your hunting stories along with photos of your successful hunts.
You are one of our greatest resources for story ideas and tips, so please let us know if you have an idea for a short or a feature. This is your sports section and we look forward to your input.
The Flint Township View is mailed free to all Flint Township residents. We realize that many readers, especially some of our coaches may live outside of the area. All of our papers can be found online at www.mihomepaper. com, which includes breaking news, video of select high school games, and a paywall where you can purchase your child’s action photos, or customize on mugs, T-shirts and more, and subscribe to our e-editions.
We are proud to be your community connection for local sports and excited to welcome Flint Township to our family of papers.
