St. Christopher’s partners with Rite Aid for free flu, COVID-19 shots

GRAND BLANC — St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Grand Blanc has partnered with Rite Aid Pharmacies to offer free flu shots and COVID-19 shots for the public this Sunday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu shots for almost everyone age six months and above. Influenza is most dangerous for adults over age 65, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain health conditions such as heart or lung disease.

“We’re grateful to Rite Aid for partnering with us to offer these important no-cost medical services,” St. Christopher’s Rector Jerry Lasley said. “If you haven’t had a flu shot or a COVID-19 shot, I hope you’ll consider the benefits for you, your family and friends, and get your shot on Sunday.”

The church is located at 9020 S. Saginaw St. directly across the street from Warwick Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc. All COVID-19 protocols from state and local health officials will be observed. Masks must be worn in the church. No appointment is necessary.

The CDC says it is safe for people to get both the flu and COVID-19 shots or boosters at the same time.

The flu shot does not cause the flu as it contains no live viruses. It takes two weeks for the vaccine to become effective, so it is important to get a shot before the flu spreads into the area. The shot protects you and keeps you from potentially exposing others to the influenza virus.

The CDC recommends getting the flu shot by the end of October.
