DAVISON TWP. — Spring. That’s the official word from Menard’s on when the company anticipates opening its new 203,000-square-foot store at Irish Road and Court Street.
To many passersby the store may look ready to open, from the finished parking lot to the polished windows and completed interior lighting where activity can be seen almost daily.
“Let’s not get too excited just yet,” said Jeff Abbott, a spokesman for Menards, who said the store will open soon.
The store accepted applications recently, drawing job seekers who waited in a line outside the building for a chance to be hired for one of hundreds of jobs being created there.
Abbott said that while hiring is a sign the store is preparing to open, there is still more to be done at the site.
“We’ve got to train all those people,” he said of the applicants the store will be hiring. “We’re looking at opening sometime this spring.”
Abbott would not be more specific on an opening date.
Davison Township officials have anticipated possible opening dates in March and April, but those have come and gone.
Menard’s has planned a store, located east of Wojo’s on Court Street, since 2008 and will be the largest commercial operation in the township.
Menards’ only other store in Genesee County is in Vienna Township, where it opened in 2008.
The store specializes in U.S.- manufactured products including building materials, furniture, gardening supplies, appliances and flooring.
