FLUSHING — The Flushing Board of Education has another proud Raider alum to add to its ranks with the election of new school board member Kimberly Strnad.

Strnad, who successfully ran for the Flushing School Board in November, was sworn into office in late December and attended her first school board meeting as a trustee on Jan. 12. She will serve a six-year term on the board.

“I really consider it a privilege to serve the district in this capacity,” Strnad said. “I look forward to giving back to the community and bringing as many enhancements as possible to the district during my term.”

Strnad said that her biggest goals as a new school board member include helping to improve proficiency ratings in all the district’s school buildings and gauging student interest to help kickstart new programs and course offerings. She also wants to promote anti-bullying initiatives and ensure that buildings and school buses are made safer for students and staff.

“It’s important for me as a new trustee to begin this role by building relationships with the others who serve, including the faculty and administration,” said Strnad, who was assigned as a board ambassador to Flushing High School in 2021. “In my brief conversations with faculty members, it’s become abundantly clear that our teachers have a drive and passion to provide exceptional education for the students in their care.”

As the parent of a current FCS student and a soon-to-be kindergartner in the fall, Strnad said that she’s also eager to serve the district where her kids will be attending school.

Strnad, 40, attended Flushing Community Schools beginning in first grade and graduated with honors in 1998. She then furthered her education at Mott Community College in music and general studies.

In 1999, Strnad was hired by Bois Insurance in Flushing, where she continues to work as an insurance agent.

In her spare time, Strnad volunteers with several organizations, including ReviveFlint and the Flushing Community Fund. She is also an active member of Mayfair Bible Church and serves as a Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador.

Strnad has also been a key organizer of blood drives within the Flushing community and is currently a local chairperson with Versiti Blood Center of Michigan.
