GRAND BLANC TWP. —
Embarking on a lifetime of baking experience, sisters Michelle Holland and Shawn Ochs are hoping their love of all things sweet will leave a good taste in the mouths of township residents.
Recently opened at the corner of Lincoln and Fenton Road in the northwest corner of the township, Sugar Dreams is a full service bakery for all your needs.
Like a lot of people opening a small business for the first time, they have had some setbacks but are happy to be opening their doors this week.
Baking was a family affair when they were young and mom Maxine Root said it was pretty much a daily event.
“Mom let us bake a lot,” Ochs said. “I loved my Easy Bake® oven but it wasn’t too long before we were at the real thing.”
The sister’s believe in using real butter and sugar to enhance the flavor of the products they sell. “We want everyone to say ‘Yum’,” Ochs stated. “It’s really important that everything tastes good.”
They plan to have both regular and holiday menu items and will shortly offer gourmet style coffees and breakfast baked goods for the morning crowd. They make many types of confections, from the standard cake to cupcakes, and also sweet breads.
One of their more unique items is the single serving Push Up cake which features cake and frosting layers in a push up tube. Prior to opening their own store, the worked out of their homes and already have orders for some holiday favorites, like Pumpkin Roll.
The store is located at 5349 Fenton Rd. and can be reached at 810-768-3054 or on the web at: www.facebook.com/sugardreamscupcakery.
