GENESEE COUNTY – On October 19, 60 high school students from Flint and Genesee County graduated from TeenQuest, a leadership and pre-employment training program, managed by the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce, that prepares teens, ages 14-19, for the workplace by teaching them about soft skills, interview techniques and financial literacy. The graduation ceremony was held at Durant-Dort Factory One near downtown Flint. Opening remarks were made by Rhetta Hunyady, Flint & Genesee Chamber Vice President of Education & Training, followed by student speeches and the graduation ceremony. TeenQuest graduates will be invited to attend a private job fair next summer with employers participating in the Summer Youth Initiative, (SYI). Each summer, SYI helps fund and coordinate the employment of TeenQuest graduates at area non- and for-profit organizations. TeenQuest and SYI are made by possible through support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Ruth Mott Foundation, Hagerman Foundation, and other generous funders. – R.S.
