FLINT — The Greater Flint Arts Council wants you to have plenty of advance notice to clear your calendar, so you can make plans now to blast off to the finest weekend of jazz on the planet next month.
Starting on Aug. 11 and swinging through Aug. 13, the 36th Annual Flint Jazz Festival will feature three days of solid entertainment that will be out of this world.
Again, this year, one of the nation’s longest running jazz festivals will be located in The Meadow on the campus of the Flint Cultural Center on the corner of Chavez Avenue and Longway Boulevard.
“It’s the perfect spot,” admits Greg Fiedler, President and CEO of the Greater Flint Arts Council. “Bring your cushions, blankets and folding chairs and enjoy the music in the plush grass and cool shade of towering oak trees.”
Headliners this year include Johnathan Celestin from Alexandria, VA, Sidewalk Chalk out of Chicago, IL, and 4 Korners from Atlanta, GA.
“As always, the three days will feature an amazing mix of local, regional and international performers,” says Fiedler. “And FYI, we don’t allow outside food or beverages. Instead, we ask that people support our vendors on-site, so they will be able to afford to serve us in the coming years.”
Performances are scheduled to start on Friday at 5 p.m., 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm.
Admission is $5 per day or $10 for a weekend pass. The weekend pass is only available on Friday and there are no advance sales. Tickets are cash only at the gate.
The annual Flint Jazz Festival is produced by Greater Flint Arts Council and is made possible by generous funding from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, HAP, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy, Mott Community College, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and National Endowment for the Arts.
