The FSO presents Holiday Pops




FLINT — The festive season brings us the uplifting concert, Holiday Pops, featuring the Flint Symphony Orchestra.

This musical extravaganza is replete with performances of your favorite carols and holiday classics. The Flint Symphony Orchestra and Conductor Enrique Diemecke present Holiday Pops, a display of delightful and festive musicality for all to enjoy at 7 p.m., Dec. 21 and at 3 p.m., Dec. 22 at The Whiting, 1241 E. Kearsley St. in Flint.

This year’s jubilee will be hosted by ABC12’s Angie Hendershot and Matt Franklin. The first hour of the Dec. 21 performance will be broadcast live on ABC12.

Joining the FSO are:

• The Flint Festival Chorus with area high school singers, Wendy Bloom, director

• Flint Jubilee Chorale, Sylvia Pittman, coordinator

• Flint Festival Youth Chorus, Sylvia Pittman, director

• FSPA Show Choir, Pamela and Annadelle Kimber, directors

• Chelsea Ellison, vocal soloist

As in previous years, choir students from throughout mid-Michigan will join the Flint Festival Chorus for the performance, including representatives from Davison High School and Grand Blanc High School.

Holiday Pops is the perfect way to get into the festive mood with carols like The First Noel, Jingle Bells and Carol of the Bells. The Flint Festival Youth Chorus and the FSO will perform several charming renditions of holiday favorites such as A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Vocal soloist Chelsea Ellison will perform the Mariah Carey favorite Jesus Born on this Day with the vocal ensembles and the FSO. The Flint Festival Chorus will sing a stirring variety of music, including the timeless favorite, Hallelujah from Messiah along with the Flint Jubilee Chorale and the Flint Festival Youth Chorus.

Premiering this year during the Holiday Pops will be the men’s only group, the Flint Jubilee Masters of Harmony and the women’s group, the Flint Jubliee Angels of Harmony, as breakout ensembles of the Flint Jubliee Chorale. A joyous medley of songs finishes the night when the FSO, Flint Jubilee Chorale and Flint Festival Chorus are joined by soloist Pia Broden Williams, soprano.

The program will be rebroadcast on ABC12 on Dec. 24 from 4-5 p.m. (Christmas Eve) and Dec. 25 from noon-1 p.m. (Christmas Day). It will also be shown by PBS stations in Michigan during the holiday season. Check your local listings for the upcoming airings of Holiday Pops.
