Thirteen Cavaliers qualify for state track finals

BAY CITY – Area track and field teams competed at the Div. 1 regionals at Bay City Western last Thursday. The top eight in each event were rewarded with medals, while the top two individuals in each event and the top two relay teams earned a spot at the Div. 1 state finals, which will be held at East Kentwood on June 1.

On the boys’ side, Jack Carter in the 800 was the only individual Cavalier to qualify for the state finals, but every relay team managed a top-two finish. Chris Coleman, Jaden Coulter, Jamarius Davis and Terrence Muez qualified in the 400-relay. Muex, Coleman, Davis and Trent Barron qualified in the 800- relay. Muex, Davis, Carter and Barron won the 800-relay, and the team of Carter, Jacobe Willis, Jalen Lewis and Joe Chin-Kee-Fatt took second in the 3,200-relay.

Carman-Ainsworth girls only managed to qualify its 400-relay team of Kivonna Thompson, Areyann Harrison, Amariyah Conway and Jakarra Nelson. No individual Lady Cavaliers placed within the top two.

As a team, Alpena won the boys’ division with 130. Carman-Ainsworth was the runner-up with 71 and Traverse City West was third with 63. Bay City Western won the girls’ regional with 111. Traverse City West was second with 95, and Traverse City Central was third with 93. The Lady Cavaliers placed 10th with 24.
