— The Flint Township Board of Trustees appointed two individuals to fill two positions for the township’s planning commission at its Sept. 7 meeting.
Originally, the board was going to appoint the two individuals, Don Thompson and Robbie Warrior, together in one motion. “Don Thompson wants to continue his service, and I recommend to extend his term,” Supervisor Karyn Miller said.
Trustee Barb Vert said she was confused by the two nominations, saying the board is constantly asking for residents to submit their resumes. She also said that she was not in support of Thompson, who currently sits on the planning commission, due to his high absence rate. Miller, in response, said she looked at all of the submitted resumes and felt that these two individuals were a good fit the for the board.
Trustee Belenda Parker indicated that in the future, “I’d like to see the names on the agenda and handle these two terms separately. I may support one, but not the other.”
The original motion, made by Trustee George Menoutes and seconded by Treasurer Sandra Wright, was then modified into two, separate motions. The board voted 5-2, with Parker and Vert dissenting, to appoint Thompson to the planning commission. For Warrior’s appointment, the board voted 6-1 in favor of his appointment, with Vert dissenting.
Warrior will replace Harry Blecker. Both terms will expire August 2013.
The Planning Commission’s next meeting is 7 p.m. Sept. 9 in the township municipal hall, 1490 S. Dye Rd.
