FLINT TWP. – Beginning May 23 through Sept. 9, the township municipal building, 1490 S. Dye Road, will be closed on Fridays, as approved by the board of trustees at its Monday night meeting.
Operating hours will be from Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 1:15-5:30 p.m.
Supervisor Karyn Miller said in the past two years, scaling back operating hours during summer months has saved on utility costs. She also noted the office would be open later during this time for which she said feedback has been 99 percent positive.
Miller also said that several other township offices are closed permanently on Fridays and hinted that she would like to see the board consider it.
Treasurer Sandra S. Wright objected to the four-day work weeks and voted against it. She said the board has lost sight of its mission to serve the people. Counting holidays, vacation days, and 104 weekend days, the township office will be open 174 days and closed 191, she said. Being closed so many days makes work pile up in her department, forcing her to pay overtime, she said.
The board approved the summer operating hours with Wright and Franklin Kasle voting no. George Menoutes was
