Township approves senior center lease

Lease going to senior center for approval before final signatures

FLINT TWP.
— The Board of Trustees approved a lease agreement between the township and the Flint Township/Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center, 2071 S. Graham Rd., during its Dec. 6 meeting.

The lease will now go to the senior center’s board for its approval. Once the center’s board approves it, the lease will come back to the township for signing. The senior center’s current lease does not expire until the end of December. According to the lease document, the new agreement would not expire until Dec. 31, 2015.

The Township Board of Trustees has had the senior center lease as an agenda item for a few months. Previous discussions on the lease resulted in the item being removed from the agenda or postponed after discussion among the trustees.

At the board’s Nov. 22 meeting, the lease was on the agenda but a motion made by Trustee Belenda Parker to postpone action until the Dec. 6 meeting was approved after questions arose regarding changes in the agreement and whether or not the senior center and its governing board had a chance to view the changes. The motion, which was seconded by Trustee Barb Vert, was approved 4-3 with Supervisor Karyn Miller and Trustees Frank Kasle and George Menoutes dissenting.
