FLUSHING TWP. — As a token of appreciation, the Flushing Area Senior Center (FASC) showed off its newly-acquired shuttlebus for township officials and residents at the May 13 Flushing Township board meeting. The Flushing Township Board of Trustees allocated over $50,000 from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help the senior center purchase the new bus, which will transport area seniors to grocery stops and special trips alike.

Altogether, the CDBG grant covered 89 percent of the cost for the bus, enabling the FASC to make the purchase without dipping into its general fund.

The FASC wishes to thank Supervisor Fred Thorsby, Treasurer Terry Peck, Clerk Wendy Meinburg and trustees William Bain, William Westenbarger, Sharilynn Willette and Linda Minarik for pursuing the CDBG grant for the bus, as well as Willette for keeping the board apprised of the condition of the senior center’s old bus. The senior center also wishes to recognize FASC member Karen Florida for contributing generous donations toward the project; the Genesee County Office of Senior Services for helping to sell the center’s old bus and offset the remaining balance for the new bus; and Genesee County voters for supporting the center through the Genesee County Senior Millage. — B.G.
