FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees will move its regular meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m., effective the first board meeting in January 2020.
Treasurer Lisa R. Anderson said it was suggested last year that the board look at changing its meeting time, for the following reasons:
Many of the presenters at board meetings have a 5p.m. end time to their work day.
Township staff routinely attend the meetings, which creates a long work day because many of them do not go home between 5:30 and 7 p.m.
An earlier start time would decrease the numbers of hours the building would need to be kept open on meeting days.
Most of the board meetings are attended by the township’s retired and/or senior population. It is dark at 7 p.m., especially during the winter months, so an earlier start time would make the end time not so late.
Trustees Frank Kasle and Tom Klee voted against changing the meeting time. The new 6 p.m. start time will begin with the Jan. 6, 2020, meeting.
