FLINT TWP. — The Township Board of Trustees will not meet on the first Mondays in August and November to help with time management during next year’s primary and general presidential elections.
Only township treasurer Sandra Wright voted against a 2012 meetings schedule approved at the board’s Tuesday night meeting which also set schedules for other township bodies. Wright objected to canceling the August and November meetings because it will create more than a month’s gap between board sessions. After its July 16 meeting, the board is not scheduled to meet again until Aug. 20 and after its Oct. 15 meeting does not meet again until Nov. 19.
Calling for support for the schedule, clerk Kim Courts said elections are a busy time for township officials.
The board will continue to meet on the first and third Mondays at 7 p.m. in 2012 with some exceptions. January meetings will be moved to the second and fourth Monday because the first Monday falls on Jan. 2 when the township offices are closed in observance of New Year’s Day.
The second meeting in February is moved one day to Tuesday, Feb. 21 presumably to accommodate the observance of President’s Day on Feb. 20. Also meetings in September are scheduled for the second and fourth Mondays, working around the Labor Day holiday.
In related business, the board set the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. for Board of Appeals meetings.
Planning Commission meetings will be held on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
The Road Advisory Committee will meet on the second Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. with exceptions in October and November.
The Parks and Recreation Committee will be on the fourth Thursday of the month at noon with the exception of Nov. 15.
Civil Service Commission meetings will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. with an exception on Feb. 14.
The Economic Development Corporation annual meeting date is May 23 at 5:30 p.m.
The Board of Review will hold sessions on March 3, March 6, March 13, March 14 an on July 17 and Dec. 11. Times vary.
All meetings take place at the township hall, 1490 S. Dye Road except the Civil Service Commission which meets at Fire Station No. 1, 5331 Reuben Street. All meeting times are posted online on the township calendar at www.flinttownship.org
