FLINT TWP. — Clerk Kathy Funk told the Board of Trustees, March 4 that the Election Commission had voted to consolidate the township’s voting precincts for the upcoming Carman-Ainsworth Schools millage election, May 4.
The proposals, approved at the Jan. 22 school board meeting, include a 1-mill increase in the district’s sinking fund, potentially generating $750,000 a year from 2019 to 2023; and a Headlee Amendment override not to exceed 2.1314 mills that will generate $45,000 a year for the same period.
Funk said residents living in precincts 1,2 and 10 and 3 and 4 will vote at West Flint Church of Nazarene, 2254 S. Dye Rd.
Precincts 5, 7, 8 and 9 have been consolidated and will vote at The Our Lady of Lebanon Church, 4133 Calkins Rd.
Precincts 13, 14 and 15 will vote at The Central Church of the Nazarene, 1261 W. Bristol Rd.
Voters in precinct 12 will not vote because the entire precinct is located in the boundaries of the Swartz Creek school district.
Funk said precinct 6 and 11 were also consolidated and would normally vote at The Veterans of Foreign War Post 3087, G-4138 Corunna Rd., but because the building is for sale, and if it sells between now and the election, it would lose its exempt status. According to Michigan election law, said Funk, a polling place must have federal tax-exempt status. Therefore, she said, polling for the combined precincts of 6 and 11 will take place at Our Lady of Lebanon Church. — G.G.
