Township dumping rules updated

FLINT TWP. — Township Supervisor Karyn Miller announced new rules for residents who use dumping privileges at the Brent Run landfill, 8355 Vienna Road, in Montrose where they are allowed to take one load per month, free of charge.

Dumping privileges are arranged through Emterra Environmental which provides the township’s weekly garbage collection and recycling services.

Under the new dumping rules, residents taking out a load will be required to present a signed Landfill Pass and a valid driver’s license or state identification car with an address matching the one on the pass. Passes, which can be obtained at the township administration building, are restricted to Emterra customers only and cannot be distributed to third parties including those contracted to work at a township residence.

Passes are good for municipal sanitary waste and household demolition projects but there is a 1,000-pound weight limit per visit. Any load exceeding 1,000 pounds will be charged the gate rate for the overage.

Items that will not be accepted include yard waste, tanks, barrels, drums, liquids, hazardous waste, propane, ties, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, and items containing Freon (such as refrigerators and air conditioners).

Also loads brought in on an open truck or trailer must be covered with a tarp.

Questions can be directed to Dan Garman at Emterra by calling 810-387- 0610.

Emterra picks up township yard waste from April through November.

Miller also noted that residents can take grass clippings to Ficks Landscaping, 6452 Corunna Road. There is a charge for branches. Miller also recommended calling ahead to determine Fick’s requirements for accepting yard waste. The number is (810) 691-9702.
