FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees issued a proclamation honoring Det. Charles Abdella at its Jan. 24 meeting.
Abdella, a resident of Birch Run, died Dec. 29. In the proclamation, the township honors Abdella and recognizes him for his time and dedication to the Flint Township Police Department. He was a police officer for more than 25 years, and spent the last 18 years in Flint Township.
His most recent assignment was in the detective bureau where he played an integral part in the day-to-day operations of criminal investigations. Abdella also served as a road patrol officer, community-policing officer, DARE instructor and Incident Response Team member.
“Detective Abdella was known for his dependability and composed and fair approach to the public,” state the proclamation. Abdella received numerous service awards throughout his career, including the Unit Citations for Professional Excellence and Safe Driving Awards.
