FLINT TWP. — The township board unanimously approved two appointments to the Road Advisory Committee but split a decision on appointments to the Karegnondi Water Board Authority.
Following a unanimous recommendation for the Road Advisory Committee, the township board appointed John Lawrence and Jeanine Libka, both township residents, to fill two open spots on the road advisory committee.
In other action, the board voted 5-2 to appoint township treasurer Marsha Binelli to the water board with Supervisor Karyn Miller serving as the alternate.
Binelli’s name was substituted for trustee George Menoutes on the recommendation list. Menoutes and trustee Frank Kasle voted against Binelli’s appointment.
The Water Authority is made up of participating municipal members who will oversee the building of a new water pipeline from Lake Huron. It is a costcutting plan created as a solution to paying steadily increasing costs to buy water from the Detroit pipeline.
Members of the Karegnondi Water Authority include cities in the counties of Genesee, Lapeer and Sanilac.
Miller said that Tracey Tucker, township economic enhancement director had been representing the township at water board meetings but an elected official is now preferred.
