Township man charged with murder

FLINT TWP. – Artavius McDowell, 26, of Flint Township, has been charged by the Genesee County Prosecutor’s Office in the death of Joseph Horton, 42, of Flint, as a result of an incident that occurred last week.

On Thursday, October 12, at about 11:12 p.m., officers responded to a call for unknown trouble at a residence in the 2400 block of Elmwood Drive in the Pasadena Mobile Home Park, according to a police report.

Upon arrival, officers found a male, later identified as Horton, who was seriously injured as the result of an assault that occurred at that residence.

Officers arrested McDowell, who was involved in the assault. Horton, the victim, was transported to a local hospital and listed in critical condition but later died on October 14 at approximately 1.46 p.m.

McDowell was lodged at the Genesee County Jail, pending charges. He was arraigned in 67th District Court on Monday, October 16, and is now charged by the prosecutor’s office with Open Murder, Assault by Strangulation and Felonious Assault. – Rhonda Sanders
