Township offers conditional employment for fire fighter trainees

— The Flint Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved to offer conditional employment to three, on-call fire fighter trainee applicants at its Aug. 23 meeting. Jesse Jarnigin, Josh Jarnigin and Michele Wilson were the three applicants who received the employment.

Also at the meeting, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted for a change in the standard street lighting contract to install one additional street light at 3288 Hatherly Ave. The installation will be paid for by the resident of the location. The Township Board also tabled the agenda item for the Senior Center lease for 30 days, pending more information.

The motion to table, made by Treasurer Sandra Wright, came after Supervisor Karyn Miller give information on the lease, saying that two lease documents were given to the board for its consideration. One document was written by Trustee Belenda Parker and the other written by the township attorney. Miller asked the board to determine which lease to use. The board first entertained a motion by Parker, seconded by Trustee Barb Vert, to use the lease prepared by Parker. After discussion, the board voted 4-3, with Trustees George Menoutes, Vert and Parker dissenting, to table the motion.

In other news:

The Township Municipal Building’s office hours will revert back to 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday after Labor Day weekend, and the building will be closed Monday, Sept. 6 in observance of Labor Day.

The Township Planning Commission has two openings. Interested applicants need to send their resume to the attention of Supervisor Karyn Miller.

Three bids for waste pick-up were received. A committee will be formed to review the submitted bids, and then make a recommendation to the board.

The committee will consist of Clerk Kim Courts, Miller and Trustee Frank Kasle, along with two or three residents. Anyone interested in serving on the committee need to contact Courts.

The board unanimously approved to authorize the addition of Financial Plus Credit Union to the approved list of township depositories and investment institutions.
