Township police arrest March murder suspect

FLINT TWP. — A Flint man is in custody for allegedly killing a Flint Township resident in March.

On May 11, Flint Township police and members of the Michigan State Police Fugitive team arrested Edvin Pendleton Mitchner, a 30-year-old Flint resident. Mitchner is accused of shooting a 33-year-old Flint Township man to death inside his home on the 3400 block of Southgate Drive during the early morning hours of March 14.

Reports conducted in March suggested that Mitchner forced entry into the residence and got into a physical altercation with the homeowner before shooting him. Investigators said that Mitchner then fled the scene in an awaiting vehicle. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Mitchner is facing eight felony counts, including felony murder, three counts of felony firearm possession, home invasion, receiving and concealing stolen property and larceny. He has been arraigned in the 67th District Court. — B.G.
