GENESEE COUNTY — Age isn’t an obstacle for many retirees who enjoy traveling within the United States or around the world. Health Alliance Plan (HAP) provides Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plan members with value-added emergency travel assistance through Assist America if they become ill or injured, lose their luggage or need medically related interpreter services while traveling 100 miles or more away from home, or in another country, free of charge.
HAP partnered with Assist America of Princeton, N.J., the premier provider of global emergency services through employee benefit plans, to provide travel-related services such as personal assistance with emergency medical evacuation, lost luggage and lost document assistance, referrals to qualified doctors and hospitals, and more.
“Our Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement members are very impressed and satisfied with Assist America,” said Karen Wintringham, HAP vice president, Medicare Programs. “They are automatically enrolled in the Assist America program at no additional cost. Assist America is a valuable enhancement to our Medicare programs because it offers worldwide protection beyond the coverage members already enjoy.
“HAP is the first Michigan-based health care plan to offer Assist America’s global emergency services,” she said. “We are committed to the health and well-being of our members, and to supporting the active lifestyles they lead. When you’re traveling, it is reassuring to know that help is just a phone call away.
Assist America also has a Mobile App for Droid and iPhone users with a one-touch connection to the Operations Center. Members can place an emergency phone call by simply tapping a button on their mobile phone.”
